karin was wondering since u are the only one who responds, how many times u went to get prolo and how many injections u had? how much has it helped? i seem skeptical about prolo since i read so many negative posts
By Kaarin on Friday, April 05, 2002 - 04:02 pm: |
I had 10 treatments in all together in 8 month.
I cannot tell you how many injections. Probably
about 5 injections each time. I'm not sure about
my last injections. I seem to have more pain
now or the effects of the inflammation is lasting
longer. The spine is very complex and you have
to make sure where to inject and like I said,
find a reputable doctor is crucial. Know your
anatomy! Easier said than done. There are people
out there who have benefit it but what I know is
it will take a long time and lots of money.
It may take 4-6 treatments but it can take a lot
longer and I mean a lot longer. It depends what
you are suffering from and how fast you are
healing.
To tell you the truth right now, I'm not sure
if it was worse a year ago or now but then I
defiantly have a problem at T7 what keeps from
getting better.
Good luck to you.

tks for response. also do u think ur doctor is injecting in the wrong areeas? and if ur not getting better why are u continuing? is he injecting weak solutions?

You have better know your anatomy of your body
and know where your weak areas are. I don't know
where you live and what your problem is but you
need to talk to a doctor who understands what's
wrong with you and like I said severely times
a good one. See, I'm not an expert and prolo
can give you added pain, muscle spasms, inflammention etc. and it can take a long time before you are getting better. It's not really a cure, just a means to an end.Look at all the websites about prolo and start reading. I'm in the same boat you are in and just trying to get better. Will I ever be pain free? I don't know.
I just hope, I'll be able to get some relieve.
Good luck

hello all. god bless, all of you are alot tougher than I. please help or point me in the right direction if possible. i am open to helping anyone that has a question for me.
me 25---> left si dysfunction since 13, worsening episodes with all the trigger point pain remaining for over three months at a time. roughly in pain for 1.5 years. possible causes-> track injury in hurdles at age 13 and then aggrivated with ski racing up to age 23. used advil and anti-inflamatories as things worsened.
started prolotherapy 1/7/02 have had 4 sessions with some if little relief. after reading i know now to space treatments every 6 weeks for optimum outcome and evaluation. however, my doctor, a DO, says "mike you have joints that move to much but your larger muscle build is not what i ussualy see with people with symptoms like yours."
he has diagnosed a hypermobile left si joint and partial fusion of L4 and L5 with "batwing transverse processes, and an a-symetrical bat wing on the right between l5 and my sacrum. he tells me however that these different bone structures are fairly normal abnormalities that do not necessarly cause pain in patients seen with these structures. he did say that it is possible that the aysemetrical L5 could be cause lever like action in the si causing the inflamation and instability.
QUESTION;
my doctor has been treating both sides of my si and i know it takes patience, and i have been doing my best to do exercises encouraged by PARK. but my doctor feels that when he adjusts me that my entire lower back cracks too much and too easily. i notice my hips are sometimes giving pops when i twist or turn or role out of bed. my doctor feels that my instability above L5 could be contributing to my pain, but he DOES NOT treat with prolo above L5. he says it is too risky, but some doctors do it. Has anyone heard of a doctor saying anything like that? any advice? I will contine treatment in the si with prolo, but after so many treatments should i seek maybe another more comprehensive physicain.
thank you all and i am more than willing to help anyone else with questions. either direct or here. sorry for the lengthy background.

Mike,
I am not exactly sure what batwing transverse processes are, but I would think that still an experienced, confident prolo doc should be able to inject above L5. How abnormal are your vertebrae? You doctor does not have to inject the transverse processes necessarily. He could inject the facet capsules and interspinous. These spots I bet would help you out a lot. If your doctor still doesn't feel comfortable doing it, I would suggest finding another doctor.

Greg,
Thank you very much for the advice. bat wing transverse processes are just that, transverse processes that are shaped like a "bat wing". between my l4 and l5 i have a left transverse batwing that curves down and covers my l5 a little more than is normaly seen. i have a right l5 transverse batwing that appears to of almost "sacrilized", or bonded with my sacrum. this is commonly described in doctor speak as "asymetrical sacralization". i asked my doctor if i was congenitialy messed up in my bone structure, but he said that my pain was likely not from my unnusual bone structure because there are many patients out there with nuances in thier bone stucture but do not complain of symptoms. similar to the % of patients with bulged discs having no pain. but my doctor did say there is a possiblity this structure causes my left l5 si joint to move to much while my right side is "partialy fused" and less moblie than the left. he hypothesizes this could cause a lever like action that causes instability and tigger points. his appoach is to stabilize the area as best as we can using prolo to tighten things up and reduce the movement. but he is concerned because all of my lumbar and into my thorasic cracks very easily under manipulation.
Does anyone know of a reputable prolo doc in northern new england that will treat above L5?
thanks greg. i will look for info on facet capsules and interspinous injection points. are thses areas done with guided x-ray and do the injections leave you with more temporary pain than si prolo?
does anyone have any knowledge of specific hormonal problems that can cause hypermobility? my doctor has me doing the reduced carbohydrate diet, but it is hard. i am hyper-mobile in my back, but i can't turn my elbow backwards or anything like that. i can touch my thumb to my elbow and i have noticed that i am more flexable than most guys my age.
thanks again,
mike

Greg,
Since you are back in answering questions and before I write a long prolo experience, I need to know if you are willing to answer me back. Park's wife is very ill and he has no time to help us. I'm in trouble and not doing so great with the injections, especially the last ones.I'll be looking every day and see if you can respond.
Thanks,
Karin

Mike,
There is a forum you can also look up. It's called delphi.com, Sacroiliac Recources 2. I'm sure you know of this website. Just yesterday they had a big talk about prolo injections. Go, and look it up. Very informative forum. You can also ask DonTigny. He is also an expert on SIJD.One thing I remember is, never inject the Iliolumbar or the sacrotuberous ligaments. Only the long and short ligaments.
Good luck!

Karin I have found Sacroiliac Resources at delphiforums.com but i cannot find Sacroiliac Resouces 2. can you help me find it.
thanks mike

I don't know why it says in my favorites Scaroiliacs Resources 2 but just look under that name and register. I'm sure, you'll find it. They have so many different forums there but it is under Scarcoiliacs Resources. Tons and tons of information, mostly about SIJD.
I cannot remember how I did it. It couldn't be that hard. I found it!
Good luck!

Mike,
Sorry this has taken me so long to answer, I've been quite busy trying to graduate college.
I have never had SI injections before, although I should really start because my SIs are terrible. The facets and interspinous ligaments are painful if they are loose, but not terrible, and probably not worse than the SI injections. My doctor doesn't use X-ray guidanace, and pretty much no experienced prolo doctors use X-ray. It is way too expensive and a good doc doesn't need to waste time with it. I've had thousands of injections and never had a permanent side effect.
As far as hormonal imbalances causing hypermobility, I would severely doubt it. Hypermobility is almost always caused by a number of genes (such as EDS genes). Hormonal problems can make your experience worse though I believe.
I go to a doctor near Boston, MA. He is wonderful, and let me know if this is close enough for you.
Karin,
I will do my best to answer any questions that you have, so please feel free to ask away! I've been having prolo for over two years, and have gained an immense ammount of knowledge. I do not have experience though with having my SIs treated yet though, but I will start this summer.
best wishes,
Greg

To all, the eastiest way to find the delphi forum for SIJD is to visit this site: www.kalindra.com. There is a link to the delphi forum. Also kalindra.com offers a database of professionals who treat SIJD.
