A client has presented with general hypermobility of all her joints. Her physician sent her to a rheumatologist
to rule out lupis which it indeed did. My client remains concerned and has often been alluded to that its all in her head.
What the best pathway to travel to be diagnosed with true hypermobility syndrome or Ehler's Danlos syndrome.
What type of doctor would recognize these signs?
What kind of tests can be performed to indicate these pathologies?
I would appreciate any input. THANKS.

Chris,

The first step is to contact doctors who are familiar with EDS. Often a rheumatologist or geneticist is more likely to know about EDS. Unfortunately, not all physicians are as well informed as they need to be in order to make a diagnosis.

Depending on the EDS type, there are different diagnositic criteria. Hypermobile type is diagnosed clinically. Vascular type is diagnosed with a skin biopsy. For more information on EDS Types, visit http://www.ednf.org/articles/types.htm.
