As a child I was not taken seriously about my pain and discomfort. Well, I have now been diagnosed with severe EDS Hypermobility. I've got two little ones that are very outgoing. Here is the question. In you children when they were small. I've got a five year old that is not very flexable he can bend his fingers 90 degrees and that's about it. But he's started pre school and is complaining that his wrist hurts from coloring all day. My Dr doesn't seem to belive that he is showing any signs. Any input?

My daughter is 4 and finally was dianogsed, it took a very special, committed pediatrician to recognize it as it is not widely recognized. Usually a geneticist diagnoses it - are you near a children's hospital.

Write to me if you want more info.

4 and finally diagnosed...Thank goodness she is very fortunate to have a mother like you. My signs started a birth and my parents were to close minded to belive I had problems. Is she/he very flexable? We have a children's hospital here but they don't know that much about it either. My Dr is having to get his information from a Dr in Maryland. He isn't complaining about his wrist as much now but I don't know if it's because he's tired of compalining or if it's stopped. I ask him about it and he says I don't think it hurts anymore.

It's so hard to know when kids are in pain. My almost 4 yr. old son is really limping again, he used to say he hurt when he limped. Now when I ask he just tells me "it's okay". I think he just doesn't want me fussing over him, but I'm worried whether he's overdoing something, even swimming seems to cause some limping, but it's difficult to get answers from the PT or DR, I just don't think they really understand the problems with hypermobility.

I'm not a parent, so I can't give any advice on parenting. I can tell you that in my childhood, I have school documentation that clearly states that I complained of pain from writing. My teachers told my parents that I was a daydreamer and used complaints of pain to avoid working. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 21.
