Hypermobility Forum for people with Marfan, EDS: EDS: Damaged intestines and EDS

I have EDS, hypermobility type. I have got more and more of visceral pain during the last years. Sometimes the whole abdomen aches. Pain also radiates from the intestines down to the groins and hips.

The doctors claim that I have spastic colitis due to my EDS. But an anti-spasm medicine like Cantil (mepenzolonbromid) doesn't help. Instead a medicine which improves the intestinal mobility helps (Primperan (metoklopramidhydroklorid)).

I think that there are some rare intestinal disorders which maybe can be caused by EDS: "Intestinal pseudo-obstruction" and "Collagene colitis". In both cases the muscle cells in the intestinal walls are damaged.

If anyone knows more about this, please write!

I believe that the spastic colon is todays doctors' favorite scapegoat. Even the pain from a dislocated rib can be ascribed to a spastic colon. Keep looking for answers!

Hi Stefan
I have recently been diagnosed EDS type III, the hypermobility type, at age 51. Pain in back, knees, arms, fingers, occasionally neck, toes and ankles. I have had severe pains for many years, approx 15.
When I was 21 years old I was admitted to hospital with a 'twisted bowel' and a small section of my jejunum was removed. It has been descibed to me as a volvulus, and also the appendage that was removed was described as 'a benign congested fibroma.'
I am aware of another EDS sufferer who had been told that she had a 'volvulus' some years ago.
I do not know if my bowel 'problem' and my EDS are linked or not but it is possible of course.
Regards, Phil
