This is my 2nd pregnancy and I have had severe symphisis pubis dysfunction, sacro-iliac pain & hip bursitis. I have needed walking aids from early on & have been in a wheelchair since 26 weeks. During my first pregnancy I had milder symptoms, which lasted 2 years and required a lot of physio to recover. This pregnancy I have finally had a proper diagnosis of HMS & SPD. Anyone else found out they have HMS/EDSIII after pregnancy? Looking back at my life (now 33 yrs), I have definetly had HMS all along. My brother also has it.

Yes! I was 48 when diagnosed with EDS. I had all kinds of problems with my pregnancies. I found that there was a girdle for pregant women and it was what held me together. I was sure that my pelvic bone was broken and got very little sympathy from the doctors. Good luck to you!

Jessica - how early was early? I'm trying for a baby at the moment, and I'm more than a bit wary of what pregnancy might do to me!

Dear Ros, I was 18 weeks when I needed crutches. I developed a limp around 12 weeks. This is my 2nd pregnancy & was slow at walking from about 24 weeks first time, but never needed aids. I didn't know I had HMS that time. I would suggest seeing an obstetric physio as early as possible. Use a pelvic belt as described above by H, as I did. Get as much info on symphisis pubis dysfunction, as sufferers of HMS/EDSIII have a 1 in 4 chance of getting it in pregnancy. See www.spd-uk.org & www.pelvicpartnership.org.uk. I'm having a C/S in 2 weeks time.

Kind Regards, Jessica

Jessica, Ros...
I have had three pregnancies over 10 years, my youngest is now 6 months old. I have been diagnosed with HMS after many years of symptoms, unbeknown at the time ( I am 31). For the past three months the pain has intensified, so much so that the simplest pleasure of carrying and cuddling my youngest is painfull. I urge you to find the support of your partners through this and your early days of new motherhood to allow you to relax and let your body recover. Im very greatfull for the support of my partner, especailly during night feeds and nappy changes.
best of luck to you
emails most welcome
Louisa
