I have signed on as a job seeker (i.e. unemployed) and had an interview with a disability adviser. I told her I had HMS and I was looking for part-time work. I want a job where I don't want to sit all day, but I don't have to stand all day either, maybe a library assistant.
The good news is that if an application form has a box to tick if you are disabled in any way which affects your day-to-day work, you should tick it. You do not have to be registered disabled or receiving any disablilty benefit. With some employers, this means you will be MORE likely to get an interview.
Also if you need a special chair or similar equipment for work, the government will pay a proportion of the cost. If it is a chair for your use only, they will pay 100%. This applies to job seekers or people who have to change careers.
