I have been diagnosed with HMS about 6 months ago. I have tremendous pain, everywhere except my left hand. Sometimes i cannot sit, stand or lay without much pain. I saw a Rheumatologist, but he really doesn't know much and has no plans of seeing me again. He did send me to PT, but I have already been there for months, but still have much pain. I am stronger though! Who can I go to next? I am in the Chicago area. If you know of someone to see in the area, please let me know.

Hi Melissa,

I was diagnosed with HMS about 2 months ago but have been in pain since last year. Anyway, it got so bad that I too could barely sit at times. And because of this I used to eat standing up. Anyway, check out www.caringmedical.com. That's Dr. Hauser's website, he's in the Chicago area. He does prolotherapy, I've had 2 prolotherapy sessions done so far and after the first one I saw some improvement. Even though I'm stil in pain it's not as bad as before and now I can sit for longer than before. Hope this helps.

Hi Silvia. I had heard of these injections before, but from a doctor in wisconsin. i am very close to this office. isn't it extremely painful though? and is this perminant? i mean, do you have to do it for the rest of you life?

Hi Melissa,

The injections themselves are painful but my doctor gives me anesthesia? (I think that's the right word). From my experience I usually feel stiff and in pain for the first two days but believe me, I don't mind because afterwards I feel
better than before.

The best thing you can do is to educate yourself more about it. I myself bought the book "Prolo your back pain away" by Dr. Hauser. It's very informative and you can get it at amazon.com

I also think there's another book out there by Dr. Faber titled Pain, Pain go Away. And there's also a lot of info out there on the internet. Check out www.prolotherapy.com

Based on all the research I've done the results are permanent but I've been told by my doctor that hypermobile people might need maintenance treatments in the future or after injury. Also, the amount of treatments depends on the individual.

Hope this is helpful

ok, so i checked out the site you told me about. it is very expensive. i really cannot afford to even think about prolotherapy right now! it is too bad, cuz Oak Park, Il is right near me. i guess it is just pain killers for me, for the time being.

Hi Melissa,

Maybe you should try and get your insurance to cover it, or at least part of it. I know that it is unfortunately expensive, I too was concerned about this but fortunately my insurance covered part of it. I read in on of Dr. Hauser's books that he also runs a free clinic for those who can't afford treatment, I think it's called Beulahland? and it's in Thebes, IL. Maybe you can call them and find out if you can get treatments there. You can also inquire about pricing from other Doctors, there's more who do prolotherapy. I think there's a Dr. Faber in Milwaukee, and I believe his site is www.milwaukeepainclinic.com but am not sure.

Also, you can call different doctors and find out if they have payment plans.

Hi Melissa,

Check out this website:

www.beulahlandinfo.com

This is the website to Dr. Hauser's free clinic in Thebes, IL. They are going to be seeing people in October so if you're interested you should call them ASAP at 618-764-2323 before the appointments get booked.

Hope this helps
