Do you have pain in your shin and/or around your ankle? Does it get better or worse when you walk?

I know what you mean about the foot slapping down. My guesses: chronic compartment syndrome or peripheral vascular disease (PVD). It sounds like there is not enough blood flow to your foot. You should tell a doctor about it and have him/her check out your foot.

I haver this and mine is Foot Drop from Peroneal nerve injury form my last knee surgery.
I have had nerve conductions studies on it and it is Slower and this causes me to have troucles with walking (I also have some damage to the sural nerve) The Sural is a sensory nerve and the Peroneal is a motor nerve.
maybe you could look at getting a nerve conduction study doen to check to make sure the nerve impulses are getting through correctly.

Iam not sure if what happens to my feet is the same but here goes. Usually I am really tired when this occurs, but sometimes it just happens out of the blue. My right foot just starts mopping the floor in a circular motion. More rarely my left foot will do this mopping action, and my knee will join in going the opposite direction. This is why I always walk with a cane.
If I stand still the mopping action stops. Usually my SI joint or hip subluxates (or I suspect the mopping starts when those joints subluxate)and the mopping continues until I get those joints reduced.
