Can anyone tell me what is causing this pain? Put your left thumb on top of your left hip bone and then move half an inch inwards and press in to your tummy. At the same time, if your hand was large enough, your fingers would be nearly on your left SI joint. The pain seems to connect right through from the front to the back. It always comes on when I am sitting on a seat which is tilted backwards, or driving in a bad car seat. Getting in and out of the car is also an effort. It is worse on my left, but I get it on the right too.

When it gets bad it moves slightly higher up, to under the ribs around the kidney area.

Where is this coming from? Before I knew I had HMS I used to think it was because I had really poor tummy muscles, but now I suspect my SI.

While on the subject, I seem to be getting looser around the hips too, which was not a problem before. Sometimes I seem to throw my leg at an angle, if I am turning round perhaps, and I get a little pain and a click in my hip. It can happen on either hip.

Why am I getting looser at the age of 50?

Tell me if physio has helped you, or if it has not helped you. I don't think it has helped me.

I know pregnanty has an impact on joints because of hormones, could it be you're beginning - I belief what is called- going through the Change or transition?(I'm not sure of the english term but I mean the hormonal change of women about your age.)Maybe someone else on this board has experience with that?.(I'm not much help ,am I.)

Sheena, I don't know what your abdominal pain is from, but a couple of years ago I was having severe SI problems. It took me awhile to find out what is was though, because I'd wake up at night with severe abdominal aching pain. I was afraid that I had something terrible, to cause the pain. (My stomach muscles were quite strong, so I thought that it couldn't be my back giving me trouble)

Well, it was my SI. I had actually sprained it somehow. Now I know that it's all tied in to my hips and hypermobility. It's amazing what the body does to compensate for injured and weak areas. My loose hip joints cause SI problems for me.

I started having problems at 30--and I've never been pregnant. I don't know why it happened at that age , maybe my body just started getting tired from compensating for my hypermobility.

Physio doesn't help me much. I found that it's more for a short term situation if I'm having severe pain. I wear a brace most of the time now for my hips, and it helps tremendously.
