Does anyone else have odd-looking collar-bones? Mine are very asymmetrical - the right one looks to me as if it could have been broken and healed up with a bend in it. I know I have broken my arms 3 times, but have no record of a broken collar-bone.

Sheena, I can't answer about the collar bone, but speaking of broken bones, I would like to add another question to yours. I just broke my ninth rib in the back and damaged the cartilege in the front from persistent relentless coughing. I don't even know WHEN it broke and the doctors are saying that the muscles and ligaments are responisble for the break. Is this connected to the EDS?

Hi Sheena,
I'm not sure he was reliable, but a chiropractor once told me that it was a sign that my back needed some straightning out on a certain point.

Well this is a little off the subject. But does anyone else have "dislocating" collar bones? Mine will hurt really bad untill I grasp my hands together behind my back and move them upward and in, then POP, they go back in place and I am relieved of the pain for a few hours untill they do it again. It also causes pain in my neck. Does this happen to anyone else? Iv'e never heard of your collar bones popping.

You're not the only one Claudia. It happens to me also. The whole area of my shoulders, collar bones, sternum is affected. I have torn one rotator cuff and dislocated the other shoulder plus had pain and "clicking" in my sterno-clavicular joints (where collar bone and breast bone joins). It seems to be connected with problems I have with cervical vertebrae also.
I went to see a musculo-skeletal specialist about the pain I was having and mentioned the clicking. He said that it couldn't happen as this joint has very little movement and that is only related to breathing.
My physio who basically commented, "Stuff and nonsense" He said he has seen the joint totally dislocated and the collar bone sticking out in front as the result of trauma. All joints are capable of dislocation if enough force is applied, and I guess for us it doesn't take much.
I have found that doing press-ups is not a wise move. Neither is carrying heavy objects any distance. I can feel the separation of the bones and have to be very careful.

Hi sheena,
my son snapped his collar bone in half when he was 8 months old, now it is lumpy, I would suggest seeing a doctor about it.

I have also had problems where my sternum and collar bones meet. There is a constant dull aching and it feels like it pops every now and then.

i FIND THAT MY CHIROPRACTER DOES TRIGGER POINT THERAPY ON MY COLLAR BONES AND THAT REALLY HELPS. HE CAN'T BELIEVE THAT HE CAN PRESS SO HARD ON ME, BYT IT IS THE FRONTWARD PRESSURE THAT SEEMS TO HELP, NOT THE REGULAR ADJUSTMENT WHEN YOU LAY ON YOUR FRONT. I WALK OUT OF HIS OFFICE LIKE A NEW PERSON. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THAT DONE? I USED TO HAVE MY YOUNG CHILDREN STAND ON MY COLLAR BONES.
