I havent been diagnosed with hypermobility, but i am sure i have it, all my joints constantly slide, and pop out of place, and my bones crack and pop all the time, and my joints bend farther then they should. my doctor doesnt know what is wrong with my arm, but i think it has to do with hms, so i will ask here. my left arm, i am extremely double jointed, i have no reflex in that arm (doc tested it and confirmed no reflex) loss of coordination, numbness and tingling from elbow up side of arm and through pinky and ring finger, sudden weakness after exercise (i am athletic and pretty strong, so this is abnormal) and sometimes sharp pains in my elbow, I have had blood tests, an EMG, and one other test, all normal. a neurologist or something mentioned the ulnar canal in my arm may be too small or something and may be irritating the nerve, but my doc knows that and didnt follow up much, he put me on anti inflammatories for a while, they helped the sharp pains (the anti inflammatory was for arthritis) but i am only 15.. i would appreciate any help, i am realy confused, and want to get to the bottom of this, it is realy impairing me, with the loss of coordination (not much, just slight were i can notice it) and the weakness. thanks!!!

Lin,
You have to be very careful if you don't feel pain. I had a cousin like that and he frequently injured himself because he got no warning that something was going to damage him.

Lin, I have similar problems to the one you mention with your pinky & ring finger. Some years ago I had an ulnar release (surgery to free a nerve trapped at the elbow) which made no diffrence whatsoever. Subsequently it has been discovered that the nerve does not stay in its groove. If you feel underneath your elbow you can locate it quite easily. Because it slips out it is getting stretched across the bone and this is causing the weakness and numbness. Maybe something similar is happening to you. I am down for surgery in the New Year to either have the nerve fixed into place or get the groove deepened, depending on what X-rays show.

Gwen,

I have to get my Ulnar nerve fixed into place. I had a release done on my left arm and I think that we are going to have to do that to it as well( they are going to do it to my right arm, as I have problems bilaterally).

Hugs beth

my left arm is my bad one, along with i have chondromalacia patella in my left knee, and my left ankle is realy bad.... my left side is where i am usualy sore, or realy realy loose, i am still hypermobile in my right side of course, i was just wondering if it is common for one side over the other..

For me, it's usually been my right side worse than my left. I think some of the same-side problems are the result of compensating for the bum knee. I don't think compensation accounts for all the problems though.

actualy, it starts at the foot, my arches have fallen, completely rotating my foot to the inside, and the bad angle of things follows all the way up to problems in ym shoulder, i have the same on the right, but not nearly to the same extent.

I also have fallen arches, and the bottoms of my feet hurt when I've been on them for any period of time. I saw photos of hypermobile joints etc. on a website, & recognized the feet as just like mine.

I think I told this elsewhere, but I'll tell it again . . . Just found out recently from my sister.

When I was a baby, my feet curved inward both at front & back, so much that the doctor had my mom put right shoe on left foot, left shoe on right foot. Then I wore corrective shoes until probably eight years old, when I wanted pretty shoes like the other girls & refused to wear the corr. shoes.

I have an appointment with a podiatrist this Weds. to see about getting custom orthotics. I think you're right; this has to effect us 'all the way up.' I hope the orthotics make a difference.
