I saw my orthopedic surgeon this morning. He looked at MRI my doctor had ordered, and showed me bubble-like features on the images. He told me that apparently my synovial tissue had separated, and now is overproducing synovia (the fluid itself) which has nowhere to go and causing lots of swelling in the involved joint (left knee).

He's sending me to an orthopedic specialist at the nearby university/teaching hospital. This specialist wants me on crutches till I see her, only placing partial weight on this knee.

I've been looking all over for info on this type of condition & have found practically nothing. Have any of you been through this?

When I went to the orthopedist today, I thought I was in for (another) arthroscopic surgery. Have had that done twice, 1981 & 1997 on right knee to remove cartilage & bone spur debris. Also had in 1996 surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome, right wrist.

I've had symptoms of hypermobility as far back as I can remember, and specifically recall a knee locking-up on me when I was 6 or 7. Tried to run, bike, etc. & only re-injured the joint.

My left knee has been my *good* knee, the one I could count on. Yikes. This sucks, and I'm nervous and a bit scared. I hate the unknown!!!

It's me again. I do have a family history & siblings & niece & grandniece with some similar symptoms. I got my doctor to refer me to a rheumatologist to try to determine whether this is EDS hypermobile type, or what. I also have sciatica, fibromyalgia, problems with shoulders, a thumb, etc. etc. etc. In other words, I'm a member of the club!
