my knees hyperextend terribly and as you all probably know, this can be painful. i`m trying to get some knee braces, preferably hinged, which dont make my legs look like an elephants leg ! I bought one a while back online from a sports site. supposed to be slimline but their idea of slimline must be different to mine. i would love one of those jazzy american ones, lightweigt & barely there. a brace above and below the knee with a clamp thing in the middle. Any idea where to get one from in the uk? why are most aids made from that vile skin coloured stuff. I need purple for gods sake !! LOL
Luv mandy

I think you are out of luck for finding anything in the UK as teh UK medical professions is thoroughly anti-bracing. The best you will get is a pointless neoprene sleeve (anyone can prove me wrong, I would be really grateful!) but www.brace4u.com definitely delivers outside the US. The problem you will always have is that the US are allowed to charge you a "restocking fee" when you return anything if it doesn't fit, doesn't work, etc. and sometimes these are huge (20% of the cost) so if you need to try several different things before you get it right then you are likely to lose a fair amount of cash in the process (this is what has put me off).

I have measured the hyperextension in my knee and it has increased from 10 degrees to 24 degrees in one month and still my doctors don't seem to think that a hinge-lock brace is a good idea!!

Clara - extension stops have stopped exactly what's happened to you, I think I was -18 and -21, thanks to the braces - I still am.

Mandy - What's your budget? I can say alot of good things about my custom iSport CTi2's and Breg Tradition x2K's (well... 'cept I broke 'em :) but they're ~$1300CAD/ea
