I have hms in a lot of my body, but it causes me most problems with my legs. This has caused me to 'get' chondramalasia patella and subsequently RSD. My surgeon is now suggesting that I probably require knee replacement. Does any one have any experiences of knee replacements in hms sufferers. Any information will be grateful, as I want to ensure that I do not have this procedure done if it will not help.

I have had 3 knee replacements, at age 49, 50, and a redo of my first at 54-knee cap popped off. I have hms, the knee replacements have given me a life. I am more active, have no knee pain. Everyone is different but my experiences have produced good results. When my surgeon told me I had to have a redo after 5 years, I hesitated less than when the dentist told me I needed more gum surgery! Good luck!

My aunt in her late 60's has had both knees replaced with artificial knees. The result is she now has to walk with a cane in each hand and the knee caps drop as she walks. She says it makes a clacking noise. She admits the warning I gave her & the one from Dr. Grahame were absolutely correct. 'Don't have surgery unless absolutely necessary.' With the second knee surgery she bled alot so they had to transfuse her. I hope this helps you to make a more informed choice, if bracing will help you I would choose that over the surgery that has questionable outcomes.
