Hi there:

I'd be very grateful if anyone could throw a light on the whole muscl spasm situation. I have EDS and about 2 years ago the muscles on the right side of my back
went spastic (I suffer from terrible muscle spasms!). My doctor prescribed Quinnine and Vioxx daily as well as a custom made back-brace. GREAT, everything was
fine for a while, but now 2 years on, I'm back to spasms in my head, jaw and neck with numb patches down my back (I've continued to take the vioxx and quinine
throughout this and they seem to have stopped working). Has anyone else encountered this problem? Has anyone found a solution? Does anyone know why this
happens? The ligament tears are quite nasty as a result.

Take care all

Thanks
Lucy

Hi Lucy
I've had awful problems with spasticity for the past 3 years. In November I started taking zanaflex and it seems that it keeps the spasms at bay unless I'm having a
really bad day. It took a while to regulate the dosage withall the other meds I'm taking but at least I can function now. I never had very good results with other
muscle relaxers, I either became way too relaxed or couldn't function at all. Anyway, good luck, I hope this helps:)

I did use baclofen which is used in M.S. patients - only problem for me was it made my other joints more unstable thus resulting in more dislocations! I now use
diazepam when the spasams get really bad, or if that doesn't work, I have to go to casualty to receive anti-spasm drugs intravaeneously. It's a case of finding what
works for you as an individual. Good luck in finding it!!

Hi
I haven't any experience with spasms and stuff but I have heard that the body can become accustomed to quinine and so no longer reacts to it in the way it should.
Also EDS seems to exclude certain drugs as useful. It may be that as the EDS advances the drugs work less anyway.
sorry to be negative please check with your doctor
take care Jonathan B

Not sure where you could buy it from, but Quinine is in Tonic water and some Ginger beer drinks
