My baby is not born yet.
The ultra-sound pictures show that the knees are hyper-extended about 20 degrees and the left foot is twisted in, like if you were to roll your ankle to the inside. We
have been to four doctors in our area(Sacramento)and spent hours at UCSF, we were told UCSF has some of the best doctors for this situation. After all of the
pictures and tests, All of the doctors claim that they have never seen such a thing. The left ankle is no big deel, a splint or surgery can fix that. The problem is that
she has never (8 ultr-sounds) bent her right leg in the proper direction that you and I would. She has not moved heer left leg at all. All of the body parts and
measurements are perfect. The brain is perfect as well. We go in today for another ultra-sound and pray that she bends her legs. Can any body give me some info.
please?
A doctor from Shriner's Hosp. claimed they had one case like this. The baby's leg was amputated(sp) after birth.
How fair to a child Is That?,I ask my wife.

I hope everything will be OK. I was born with both feet severly twisted inside and up, and the doctor that treated me swore I'd never walk right, but after years of
braces and special shoes (aside from hypermobility problems)I walk just fine. Don't let anyone tell you something can't be fixed.

Hi Mitch,

You might want to ask your doctors about the possibility of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (especially Type IV - vascular) and Marfan's Syndrome. There's quite a bit of
information on the net on these. Try doing a search for those. I use www.savvysearch.com

If you'd rather be directed to specific sites, just post again and I'll put together a collection for you.

Best wishes Mitch. I hope I've helped a bit.
Janie

Hi Mitch,

I can't tell you much about the subject only that
I was born with my left foot twisted in too. To
correct this I got a splint when I was just a baby
(which made beautiful white lines on the floor when
I started crawling)and things worked out fine concerning my legg.
The only time I notice the difference with my right
leg is when I through my left leg in the air; it
gives an anoying feeling in the left hip, like
something is moving incorrectly there, and I can't
get my legg very high. But since I quite Jazz ballet
several years ago I can't tell the difference in every
day life.

I hope your little girl has moved her legs and that
nothing drastic concerning her health is required.

My thoughts are with you, your wife and your baby girl.

Good luck.

Ester.

it's ahrd when something is detected on u/s --especially when they dont know exactly what to tell you!

i think they (and you) won't be able to decide what to do until your baby is born.
make sure you will have specialist paediatrician on board for the birth. babies that are hypermobile are at risk of being born with dislocations.
try contacting relevant orgs in USA on lower limb / talipes
go to http://www.steps-charity.org.uk/

and email them
and see links section
http://www.steps-charity.org.uk/links.htm
which has USA links
too.

and this is still your baby and s/he will be beautiful.
