I have hms and last year fractured two bones in my spine just taking the dog for a walk.It wasn't diagnosed for three months and now i am still in pain from it.Could this be down to my hypermobility?Has anyone else had this trouble?

I have hypermobility-type EDS or HMS, and I developed osteopenia. That is where you have lost some bone density, but not enough to call it osteoporosis. I am only 24, and I had to talk my doctor into testing me for it, but I'm glad I did, because I now make sure to take calcium supplements to avoid losing more bone density.

I believe the reason I developed osteopenia is because I am not as active as I should be, due to the chronic pain and the injuries that occur when I do too much. Also, I was born with a lactose intolerance, so I don't taken in too many dairy products.

You should think about getting a DEXA scan to test for osteoporosis. It is painless, and much like an x-ray.

Good luck.
