Toes and wrists?

Hypermobility Forum for people with Marfan, EDS: Bracing: Toes and wrists?

Hi, I'm new here (been lurking for a while though). Having just got back from a holiday in Devon where I lived in my soft ankle braces, they're OK, but my toe joints (what would be the knuckle on the hand) are complaining.

My physio says they're all loose, but particularly the outermost toe, which moves around so much it causes inflammation all the way up the outside of my foot. Not fun. Does anyone have any ideas about how I can support/brace/immobilise that joint without losing any ability to walk? I tried elastic bandage, but that doesn't stay in place, and then I tried tape, but I found it very difficult to get the tension right, and frequently ended up feeling like I'd lost circulation to my toes!

Also, my wrists and knuckles are complaining from use of the essential walking stick. Again - any thoughts on the best way to treat this while still being able to type and use a mouse?

Thanks for any advice...

Ros

Custom insoles?
I should, but haven't - yet, get a special toeplate in mine.

As for wrists - splinting doesn't really do a whole lot because we don't need to be immobilized as much as having our joints track properly and have their ROM limited to REASONABLE angles.
I've got splints, I find I hurt MUCH worse when I wear 'em (usually overnight) - but - you aren't me.

Fingers... I'm curious to try silver ring splints...

I find my watch causes me alot of pain actually.

Thanks Myke. I know what you mean about wrist splints - I don't have any, but whenever I try to immobilize my wrists, they feel better for all of about 5 minutes, and then they feel worse again.

I'm curious about the silver ring splints too...
