I've been dealing with an SI Joint that continues to lock up about once a week and a physical therapist recommended prolo therapy. I had never heard of it before. I have a few questions:

since it's an intrusive procedure that needs to be repeated, does anyone know of long term effects?

it was recommended that I only get the injection in the long and short ligaments. how does the doctor know exactly where the ligament is and that he is getting the precise ligament? Do any doctors use an xray to guide them? Also, if the goal is to just get those ligaments, wouldn't the inflammation potentially affect the other ligaments that are so close to each other?

It is always a caution to have anything invasive done.

Thanks for your input.

Lisa,
I would recommend finding a doctor that uses fluroscopy. If the shot is in the wrong place it is dangerous and you will not get better. The solution, shot placement and your ability to heal are most important. There are dangers to any procedure. Make sure your doctor has done this for many years. Could you ask your PT about Photonic Stimulators. It is relitively knew to U. S., however it is not invasive like prolo is.

I did not get them under fluroscopy and had no improvement. I do not know if they were in the wrong place or if it was the solution? A year down the tubes.

I too am doing prolo on my SI joint and L4 and 5.

I am still hurting after a week but the pain after the prolo was very intense. I am still black and blue over the left SI joint. It all makes sense to me and I need to brace myself for the after pain.

I hope this works!
